It's probably about a year ago now (wow, I'm so prompt with my posts) that I made my first shirt, and subsequently made 2 more, all out of the same pattern, so what better way to hack through my posting backlog than to combine them all into one post?!
Until I finally bit the bullet and took on the first one, I was always incredibly nervous about the idea of making a shirt. I think it's something to do with the buttonholes. I'm always petrified my machine will just gobble up my fabric and I'll get so angry I'll throw it out the window. In fairness, I don't think that's a fear that goes away with practice. I hate buttonholes more than I hate hemming, and I really f*cking hate hemming.
For this endeavour, I used this Vogue 2063 pattern by Calvin Klein that had been lying in my stash for a while, and by the looks of things, lying in someone else's stash for quite a while before that.
For it, I used some gorgeous bottle green and white striped paisley crepe.
And it actually wasn't that difficult to do. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was "very easy" but yeah, not too bad. I really love the shape of it and how it's slightly oversized, but not so much so that it's unflatteringly baggy.
I loved the shirt so much, I knew I needed to have more of it in my life. So I bought the exact same fabric in brown, and to be slightly different, lengthened the pattern to make a shirt dress. I didn't take any photos at home at the time, which means you get to bask in the glory of my basking in sunshine on holiday in Valencia, Spain, while wearing said shirt dress.
I actually prefer this one to the first, as I guess brown is more my colour, and it's probably become one of the most-worn things I've made.
Admittedly, that's not really saying much, as most of the things I make are highly impractical to wear on a regular basis, or are at the very least odd to wear in more casual settings.
Again, I only have photos of this on holiday, and for some reason don't have any decent photos of the back, which is where all the modified action lies, so, erm, you'll just have to imagine that.
(Worn with my Mccalls 7726 shorts* - coming to the blog soon!)
Again, apologies for the trainers. They don't go with the outfit and that bugs me, but as against that, they don't cause intense pain like most of my shoes. Swings and roundabouts I guess.
Also, if you're intrigued by the truly epic buildings in the background, these photos were taken at the City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia, which I would definitely recommend visiting.
Well, this turned out to be quite photo-intensive! Thanks so much for reading etc. etc. and hopefully there'll be another post up before too long!
