Brown Coat
About 50% of my wardrobe space is taken up with coats. They don't get much use, as I rarely ever leave the house, especially not when it's cold outside (which is most of the year where I live). Regardless, the coat is probably my favourite item of clothing. All the beauty of tailoring, yet with comfort and warmth, what's not to love?
Though I've ventured into the world of jackets a few times (here's my most recent jacket post), I've never yet dared to make a coat. Until now! I decided I'd start out easy(ish) with a wrap-around coat, so that fit would be less of an issue, so decided to go with a coat from Burda Style (pattern 118A from UK 1/2016 magazine), mainly because it was right next to the pattern for my satin trousers in the magazine. Yep, despite hours of frustration at the magazine, I just went ahead and made the very next pattern. I really don't learn.
In fairness, I did find this pattern a lot easier to follow than the trousers, and I only had to go off piste with the back slit, as that did cause a lot of confusion for some reason.
For fabrics, I used some brown cotton velvet as the outer, interlined with some calico, and some floral crepe as the lining.
