Just under a year ago, I blogged about a dress I'd made ages ago and relegated to the back of my wardrobe, and now I'm back to write about another item of clothing that had suffered a similar fate.
I made this kimono-sleeved duster probably about 5 years ago, out of fabric left over from a dress. It just so happened that the way I'd cut the dress out left a shape in the fabric that lent itself perfectly to something kimono-inspired. There was absolutely no pattern drafting or even measuring involved in this project. I literally just folded the edges over each other, sewed a couple of straight seams, and had myself this epic duster.
Of course, the result of this rather slapdash approach is that there are multiple technical issues with it, such as one sleeve being slightly longer than the other, and I also didn't bother to neaten any of the seams for some reason. This does make the perfectionist in my incredibly uncomfortable, but at the same time, I just really love this thing. I don't think it would have gotten through quality control if I was making it today, but I'm so glad I didn't scrap it, and I'm so glad I found it again.
If I didn't' have a million other projects on the go right now, I'd definitely be making this in all the obnoxious prints I could find. So if anyone would like a tutorial on how to make something like this, let me know, and maybe I'll put it at the top of my to-do list.
(Worn with my Drape Drape No.5 dress)
Well, I don't have that much to say about it, so I guess that's it for today!
Thanks so much for reading!
