Continuing on my theme of playing catch up with makes from last year I never got round to blogging, today's post is about this skirt I first posted on my Instagram back in April, I think.
The pattern I used for this was pretty much just my basic skirt block, with a high waist, and tapered in more towards the hem so that it's ultra close fitting, and I've used it for a fair few skirts, like my Suede Pencil Skirt and my Quilted Pleather Skirt.
The key difference between this skirt and those two previous makes, though, was that this one was made from stretch fabric, which meant I could actually get away with it being so close fitting. Not that the others are incredibly difficult to move in, but y'know, I don't think I've ever worn them, and unfortunately don't think I ever will. That was part of what motivated me to make this, as I really love the silhouette of a pencil skirt, so wanted to have one I could actually wear.
The construction for this was super simple. There's a front piece, two back pieces, a front facing, and two back facings - these were just traced off the respective front and back pieces, and about 3 inches long not including seam allowances. There were two darts in the front (and front facing), and two darts in each back piece (and respective back facing), and it was closed by an invisible zipper down the centre back seam. All in all, it's a pretty easy make, and something I always find myself gravitating towards if I find myself with a spare 1m or so of stretch fabric.
